Judge says identity used at online bank
TIM HRENCHIRA Shawnee County district judge reported this week that someone had tried to open an account using his name at a bank that operates on the Internet, Topeka police said.
No arrests had been made Friday in connection with a case of identity theft reported Tuesday by Judge Thomas R. Conklin.
The crime was committed Aug. 11, according to the police report.
Lt. Jerry Young said someone apparently used Conklin's name to try to open an account at Wingspan Bank, a financial institution that operates online.
Conklin, 56, learned of the crime when Wingspan Bank contacted him as a matter of routine procedure to make sure the request was legitimate, Young said.
