RUGBY LEAGUE: Wolves in the dock
DAVID BURKEWARRINGTON Wolves will be hauled before a RL tribunal tomorrow charged with illegal approaches for Nathan Wood and Dean Lawford.
But if the Wolves are found guilty they face a fine rather than having points docked, which could have proved decisive in their battle to avoid the drop.
Relegation rivals Wakefield complained over Warrington's pounds 30,000 swoop for Aussie scrum-half Wood in June. And Batley Bulldogs are angry at a planned Wolves move for former half-back Lawford.
But Warrington chief executive Andy Gatcliffe said: "We don't believe there is a case to answer and will submit a very robust defence."
ST HELENS have offered Darren Albert, the 23-try RL top scorer, a long-term contract. The Aussie winger's existing deal runs out at the end of next season.
Kiwi centre Tonie Carroll could have played his last match for LEEDS. Carroll, who joins Brisbane Broncos at the end of the season, is struggling with a knee injury.
