First word
Jane WrightOKAY, so screeching up late to a rural wedding in a white Transit van probably wasn't the best way to make our entrance, but boy did we feel the wrath of the meenister. I suppose we did look like the witches of Eastwick as we clattered up the aisle to a hidden side pew. A hush descended. It was, admittedly, a bad time to get a fit of the giggles. There's something about churches that makes you want to behave a little bit badly, and it's definitely frowned upon. Ladies, especially unmarried ones it would appear, should be seen and not heard.
Luckily we like devil-may-care, feisty dames who laugh in the face of disapproval and adversity. That kind of ballsy chick is perfectly exemplified by two of our interview subjects in the magazine this week.
First up is the wonderful Rachel Griffiths, best-known as sexy, unconventional Brenda in Six Feet Under. This smart Australian actress with a gift for accents has always chosen roles of substance over starry stuff. And now the penny has dropped for Hollywood. Second is the story of an astonishing female success from the dark male world of boxing, Jackie Kallen. You definitely wouldn't want to go a few rounds with her, and she's just a manager. Ding ding.
