Three arrested in drug busts
KEVIN BATESPolice search motel room after smelling marijuana; traffic stop reveals drugs.
Police arrested three people in connection with possession of marijuana and other drugs early Monday, two at a downtown Topeka motel room and the third about two hours later during a traffic stop.
Officers were called to Days Inn Capital Centre shortly after midnight Monday, and when officers arrived, they could smell that marijuana possibly was being used in one of the rooms, Lt. Jerry Young said.
Officers knocked on the door and found two men inside the room in possession of a small amount of narcotics and marijuana, Young said.
Curtis A. Eatmon, 29, 2518 S.E. Jefferson, was arrested in connection with the sale of narcotics and failure to pay the Kansas drug tax, felonies, along with misdemeanor possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Christopher L. Montgomery, 33, 229 S.W. Country Club Drive, was arrested in connection with misdemeanor possession of marijuana. Both were booked into the Shawnee County Jail.
About two hours later, another Topeka man was arrested during a traffic stop when the officer who pulled him over saw him drop a bag of marijuana on the ground, Young said.
The officer stopped Travis R. Gardenhire, 22, 1400 S.E. Golden, shortly after 2 a.m. Wednesday in the 1400 block of S.E. Madison for a traffic violation, and when Gardenhire stepped out of his vehicle, Young said, the officer saw him drop a bag onto the roadway.
An initial test at the scene determined the substance to be marijuana, Young said.
Gardenhire was arrested in connection with felony possession of marijuana and booked into the Shawnee County Jail.
