Stonemartin stepping up

PAUL ARMSTRONG

THE serviced office provider partly owned by the Institute of Directors, Stonemartin Corporate Centres, is to be backed into listed property investor Ashquay in a move that will increase its competition with the embattled Regus.

Ashquay, which will be renamed Stonemartin, will use the IoD's 54,000 members to target small and medium-sized companies needing serviced office space the same market now being sought by Regus following the collapse in demand from multinationals.

The deal will allow Ashquay to raise 4.8 million in a share placing to property groups Hammerson and Warner, which will emerge with 14.3% and 10.6% respectively. Fellow property group MEPC will have 15%, management will hold 10% and 2% will be in the hands of the IoD.

Ashquay will also raise 4.8 million from the sale of its existing property assets.

Stonemartin will manage buildings owned by investment groups Morley and Hermes. It plans to brand the properties as "IoD Corporate Centres" and target 12 key business locations in Britain.
