EWU CHOOSES EDUCATORS AS TEACHERS OF THE MONTH

Three Inland Northwest teachers have been named Teachers of the Month by Eastern Washington University.

Katherine Curry, a leadership, physical education and social studies teacher af Freeman Elementary School was chosen for February.

Terry Lack, a music teacher at Cheney High School, was chosen for January. Chris Youngberg, a music and choir teacher at Ephrata Middle and High schools, was selected for December. Each teacher was nominated by a student and selected for the honor by a committee in EWU's department of education. Four Inland Northwest teachers were recently honored by Professional-Technical Administrators and the Spokane Teachers Credit Union for integrating Pathways into their classrooms. Receiving PaceSetter Awards were: Ron Jingling, mechanical engineering technology instructor at Spokane Falls Community College; Bill Rustemeyer, auto technology teacher at Wilbur (Wash.) High School; Dan VanHoose, technology teacher at Garry Middle School; and Steve LaLonde, English/R-TV teacher at University High School. Douglas Brajcich Jr., a senior at Gonzaga Prep, recently received a $12,000, four-year scholarship to Gonzaga University. He is the son of Douglas and Helen Brajcich. Two Senior Girl Scouts from the Inland Empire Council have been selected to attend national interest programs, "Wider Opportunities," this summer. Sarah Schrempp, Cadette Girl Scout Troop 181, Rockford, will attend "Fun, Fantasy and Footlights" in New Haven, Conn. Hope Fleischauer, Senior Girl Scout Troop 82, Mead, will attend "Canoe Country Rendezvous" in Hibbing, Minn. Chris Cael, a Shadle Park High School student, recently participated in the Presidential Classroom's Flagship Program in Washington, D.C., with 200 students from 33 states, Puerto Rico and Honduras. Seven Spokane-area students recently competed in the State Geography Bee. The students and their school are: Rachel Bender, Sacajawea Middle School; Patrick King, Cataldo Catholic School; Matt Schroeder, Bowdish Jr. High; Luke Olsen, Horizon Jr. High; Jeffrey Anderson, Shaw Middle School; Justin Lewis, Northwood Jr. High; and William Skriba, Evergreen Elementary.
