Football: GERRY ARMSTRONG: They've Scots no chance

GERRY ARMSTRONG Interview: NICK CHERRIE GERRY ARMSTRONG

RANGERS and Celtic begin their Champions League group campaign this week..and neither have got a hope in hell's chance of doing well.

Martin O'Neill must be getting fed up of having to do everything on a shoestring at Celtic.

To win the Champions League, you need two squads - one for the League and one for Europe.

That's why the winners this year will either come from England (Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal), Spain (Real Madrid, Real Sociedad and Deportivo) or Italy (Inter, Milan or Juve).

I think Chelsea will do well, providing they can gel their team quickly enough.

By bringing in the likes of Hernan Crespo and Juan Veron, they have made great strides in their bid to become a European force.

Real Madrid are obviously going for back-to-back wins, but I feel they have blown their chance by getting rid of their key men recently.

Steve McManaman, coach Vicente Del Bosque, Fabio and Claude Makelele may have boosted their bank balance, but the lack of strength in depth - especially in defence where they are desperate for back-up - will cost them heavily in the end.
