WRONG TONE

GILL SMITH

TONY Blair turned his back on royal protocol yesterday when he stormed past the Queen - after shoving his wife Cherie out of the way.

The strain of the Hutton inquiry was etched all over Mr Blair's face as he left the annual Braemar Games in Scotland.

First he marched down the walkway from the Royal pavilion to waiting cars, pushing Cherie to one side.

Then he breached protocol by passing the Queen and walking in front of her to the fleet of cars which took the party the eight miles back to Balmoral.

One onlooker said: "It was clear he didn't want to be there any longer. It was obvious he'd had enough. When it was time to go he just couldn't get away quickly enough." Within minutes of arriving at the event, the Prime Minister was booed by a small section of the 18,000 crowd who were standing near to the Royal Enclosure. At one point Cherie stifled a yawn as she watched the games in progress. A man was later arrested after a security scare in front of the Queen and Mr Blair.

Police said the 35-year-old man was detained after shouting obscenities at the pavilion containing Mr Blair and the Queen.

GAMES official Bert McLeod, 75, was treated after shooting himself in the hand with a starting pistol.
