EXCLUSIVE By PAUL SMITHROMAN Abramovich will not sleep easy until David Beckham pulls on a Chelsea shirt.
If the Russian billionaire had bought into the London club just a month earlier, it is unlikely the England captain would be pulling on a Real Madrid shirt.
And at the first indication that Beckham is becoming unsettled or disappointed with life in Spain, he will immediately move to bring the 28-year-old to Stamford Bridge.
One senior Chelsea director revealed the depth of Abramovich's interest in Beckham when he said: "It borders on obsession.
"The one player his money couldn't buy was the one player he wanted to see in a Chelsea shirt and that was Beckham.
"For all the money he has spent to ensure Chelsea will be successful, I have no doubt he would trade the lot to get his hands on Beckham."
