WHENEVER a tragedy like the German high school massacre happens, authorities desperately look for a scapegoat.

But no matter how warped music, video games and movies get, they alone can not turn people into killers. It is down to bad parenting, alienation from their peers and easy access to guns.

Until we address the underlying causes that turn teens into trigger-happy killers, the deaths will continue.
