Where's Ryder?

I was shocked to see that Montreal Canadiens forward Michael Ryder was left off of your all-rookie team [August 2004]. Ryder led all rookies in points this season by a margin of 12. He tied for first in goals with Trent Hunter, and he led all rookies with 38 assists. He should be a lock for the all-rookie team. I watched nearly every Canadiens game this season and Ryder is more than just numbers. He consistently works hard, forechecking and backchecking every shift. He is willing to throw big hits, too.

Ryder was very important to the Canadiens this season. He finished second on the team in goals and points. He played on the club's top line for a good portion of the season, and for the other portion he played on the second line. He impressed me every game.

Hunter, Ryan Malone, and Patrice Bergeron were all very impressive, but let's face it, they didn't make the impact that Ryder did. None put up the numbers that Ryder did, and I don't believe that any of them showed as good all-around play.

To me it was ridiculous to see Ryder left off of that list. I just couldn't believe it. If Ryder isn't the rookie of the year, he will certainly make the all-rookie team.
