Sophie leaves 'em all a-quiver
DEBORAH SHERWOODSOPHIE Wessex added another string to her bow yesterday when she had a go at archery.
She and Prince Edward proved a hit with Belfast teenagers, especially when the Earl of Wessex succeeded in bursting a balloon during a practice session.
The royal pair are just as keen to get their royal careers back on target by jetting off to America in their first official enagagement abroad since quitting their controversial business careers.
They will fly to New York next week in their new role as the Queen's "goodwill ambassadors" during her Golden Jubilee year. Their list of engagements includes a gala benefit evening on April 23 given by the London Symphony Orchestra at the city's posh Metropolitan Club.
The couple are also due to visit Los Angeles where Edward will focus on his role as a trustee of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award International Foundation. Edward is also thought to be keen to discuss the possibility of lucrative speaking tours.
The revelation will fuel the row over Edward's new royal role - and raises questions over his dedication to his new job.
Prince Edward has a personal fortune estimated at pounds 9million, but that is unlikely to cover the costs of keeping up appearances as major public figures.
A royal aide said: "While in America, Edward will be discussing the possibility of speaking tours. The Palace has no objection provided the subjects chosen are non-controversial."
