QUEEN DIDN'T WANT DIANA MEETING THE POOR OR SICK
EXCLUSIVE by ALAN RIMMERPRINCESS Diana was banned from Buckingham Palace by the Queen because she was afraid Diana would turn the place into a hostel for the homeless.
The astonishing claim was made in the secret video diaries Diana recorded at Kensington Palace in the mid-1990s. In the tapes made for sons William and Harry Diana says: "I was barred on the instructions of the Queen from entering Buckingham Palace.
"If I wanted to go I would have to make an appointment. The Queen and Philip had decided I should not be allowed to go there for fear of embarrassing them. Apparently the Queen was concerned that I might be stupid and open the Palace to the homeless."
Diana says she tried to talk to the Queen about her charitable works and how important it was to meet ordinary people. She claimed: "The Queen was heartless and totally uncharitable. I tried to say to the Queen, 'Why not visit ordinary people'? She just looked at me and said, 'Why should I? The public can see me. I don't need to go out there with them."
The tape, kept in the home of Diana's butler Paul Burrell, were seized in a police raid.
