Don't be shy
Wolfe, AnnaIt is hard to believe it is already that time again-time to put on your thinking caps for the Gourmet News 20 under 40 awards and the annual Gourmet News Retail Leadership Award. We're already compiling our list of nominees for both of these awards. Thanks to everyone who has already sent in his and her nominations. It's not too late to submit your suggestions.
The biennial 20 under 40 awards recognize 20 individuals in the gourmet food and kitchenware industry who have distinguished themselves before reaching the age of 40. These individuals have been instrumental in their businesses' growth, executed their business plan, and have a clear future direction. Folks from all sectors of the industry-retailers, suppliers, brokers and distributors-are eligible. If you have someone you'd like to nominate, or perhaps you'd like to toot your own horn, tell us what this person has accomplished so far and why you believe he or she will be a future leader in the gourmet industry. There isn't an application form for 20 under 40. Deadline for nominations is Aug. 6. We'll be featuring the class of 2004 in our October issue.
Designed to honor retail stores, the annual Gourmet News Retail Leadership Award recognizes the North American specialty retailer that has led the industry or other retailers in a specific gourmet business movement or mission between Aug. 1, 2003 and July 31, 2004. This can be for managing company growth, exemplary community involvement, overcoming business challenges, implementing a unique concept, outstanding promotions or innovative staff training. You can download an application from www.gourmetnews.com.
If you know of a retailer that needs a nudge to sing their praises, let us know and we'll ask them to apply.
For the Gourmet News Retail Leadership Award, applications are due Sept 15. We'll announce the winner in our February 2005 issue.
As always, we look forward to hearing from you.
