Justin's Smart Golf - tips for bunker shots - Brief Article
Justin LeonardHow to hit the downhill bunker shot
Nobody likes to face a downhill bunker shot-not even the pros. But it's not an impossible shot. With some practice and better technique, you'll be able to at least get the ball out of the bunker every time-and that should be your main goal.
The critical element in any sand shot is to keep your head stable throughout the swing. That's especially important here. Move even a little bit off the ball and you'll skull it or hit it fat.
If I didn't kick my right knee in, I'd really have to stretch to get to the ball, and it would be much tougher to keep my shoulders level. Adjust to be as balanced as possible in your setup.
With a square clubface, hit about an inch behind the ball. You'll have to really dig into the sand to get under the ball enough to shoot it out. This shot flies lower and hotter, so be ready.
