Gold Kings lose lead, drop game
For The GazetteSAN DIEGO - Brian LaFleur scored twice and Freddy Beaubien made 40 saves, but the Colorado Gold Kings failed to hold on to a third- period lead for the second straight time and lost, 5-3, to San Diego late Saturday night.
Goals by Mark Woolf and Mike Taylor gave San Diego a quick 2-0 lead, but LaFleur's power-play goal with 15 seconds left in the first period sliced the Colorado deficit in half.
The league's top-ranked power play unit struck again when Tom Perry tied the score 2-2 with his first goal in nearly a month at 9:03 of the second period.
Perry fed LaFleur with a cross-ice pass to give the Gold Kings their first lead at 3-2 early in the third period, but San Diego rallied with a series of offensive flurries.
