Soldier dealt 12 months in fatal crash
The GazetteFort Carson Pfc. Andrew Allbright, of the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, was convicted and sentenced to 12 months in jail Thursday for his role in a Park County crash in which another Carson soldier was killed.
Allbright, 19, pleaded guilty to charges of negligent homicide and driving while intoxicated, said Carson spokeswoman Ginger Couden. Besides jail time, Allbright was reduced to the lowest rank, E-1, given a bad conduct discharge and ordered to give up all pay in a sentence handed down Thursday night, Couden said.
At 1:15 p.m. May 7, Allbright was driving on Park County Road 92 near Lake George when he failed to negotiate a turn and his pickup rolled, said Sgt. Martin Petrik of the Colorado State Patrol's Fairplay office. Roads were dry and no other vehicles were involved, he said.
Allbright and his passenger, 22-year-old Pfc. Jacob Derrico, were thrown from the pickup. Derrico was pronounced dead at the scene from head injuries, Petrik said. Allbright had head, ankle and shoulder injuries, the trooper said. Neither soldier was wearing a seat belt, he said.
