What's in my bag? - Brief Article
Frank NobiloI like to keep the ball in play, so I need a driver that allows me to maneuver my tee shots. When I played my best golf, I used an old Taylor Made, so I went back to their FireSole toward the end of last year and started driving it better. Sometimes I don't mind sacrificing 10 yards for driving it straight, but invariably I find that the ones I hit straight are as far as any others. When I'm swinging well I can get the ball out there, but I still need a 3-wood that's reasonably strong to attack some of the par 5s.
Irons
I've been using Cleveland irons for several years. These are Tour Action forged musclebacks (2-PW, D-4 swingweight) with True Temper X100 shafts. The shafts are pretty stiff, with a medium flex point that helps hit the ball a bit higher. Grips are Golf Pride Tour Velvet.
Woods
My driver is an 8-degree Taylor Made FireSole with a stiff Graphite Design shaft (E-6 swingweight). My 3-wood is an old Callaway S2H2 steel model with a 7.4 Precision graphite shaft.
Putter
I've used this 3411/42-inch Ping Pal 4 about 95 percent of the time since 1988. I just really like the way it looks. I put lead tape on the head because it felt a little light.
Wedges
I have two 56-degree Cleveland Tour Action 588 sand wedges. One is bent to 55 degrees, the other to 59. I had to take some bounce off the one bent to 59 degrees, so that's why I put some lead tape on it.
