Good works : These tees are meant to please - golf tees made by the Mississippi Industries for the Developmentally Disabled - Brief Article
Stick a tee in the ground and there's a chance you've made at least one person's day other than your own. We're talking about the folks at Ellisville State School, who since 1993 have bagged and shipped more than 28 million tees to golf clubs across the country.
Part of the Mississippi Industries for the Developmentally Disabled (M.I.D.D.), the golf-tee program now employs 75 people with mental and/or physical disabilities. The wooden 211/48-inch "pro slim" pegs--the same type used on the PGA Tour--are packed in bags of 12, 15 and 25 tees.
"It's a win-win situation," says Scott Dossett, director of development for the vocational services department at the Ellisville school. "Our clients build self-esteem through employment, and golf courses get quality tees at competitive prices." Dossett's only problem: He has enough people to fill 100 more jobs.
Our solution: Play more golf so we can buy more tees. To do business with the M.I.D.D., call 601-477-6500.
