Body found covered in blood in house
Becca BlondA man was found dead Sunday in a downtown Colorado Springs home, covered in blood with a dog standing guard.
Police had not determined whether the death was a homicide late Sunday but were treating it as suspicious. They were trying to determine the name of the victim.
Crime tape blocked off homes in the 200 block of South Prospect Street as the Colorado Springs Police Department major crimes unit searched the outside of the house for evidence.
Police found the body and a large amount of blood about 3:30 p.m. Sunday after responding to a medical call at the house.
"It indicated some kind of violent act," said Colorado Springs police Sgt. Michael Spitzmiller.
Police were held at bay by a large dog guarding the man.
"It was a standoff between the dog and the cops," Spitzmiller said.
The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region removed the dog.
Police said it appeared as if the man had been dead for a long time, but they will not know until an autopsy is conducted today.
