Migrant worker receives a hand
Becca BlondEdward has spent his life as a migrant worker following the crops to make a living.
An older gentleman, Edward (not his real name) attended school for only four years. He is unable to read or write.
He is not fluent in English and has always had difficulty expressing himself.
Things only got worse for Edward when he was in a car crash and suffered a head injury.
The temperature was quickly dropping, and Edward found himself hungry and lacking a winter coat. He turned to the Marian House, one of 11 organizations that benefit from The Gazette-El Pomar Empty Stocking Fund, for help.
The Marian House not only provided Edward with a hot meal and a warm coat but helped him apply for disability benefits and medical treatment for his head injury.
Edward's caseworker, John Archuleta, took Edward's case a step further and helped him reunite with his daughter and her family.
"Edward is no longer living on the streets and is so happy to be with his family," Archuleta said.
"This will be the brightest Christmas he has had in a long time."
