AHA show is the place to exhibit new products
The American Hospital Association, Chicago, expects to have 400 exhibitors at its annual conference, July 30-August 1 at the Washington Convention Center, Washington D.C.
The majority of exhibitors were at last year's show and encompass three product areas: patient care products and facilities; administrative services and products; and information systems and equipment.
Vendors that will have large booths, from 20-by-20 to 50-by-50, include: 3M, St. Paul, Minn.; Hill-Rom, Batesville, Ind.; Baxter Healthcare Corp., Deerfield, Ill.; Simmons Healthcare, Charlotte, N.C.; International Business Machines, White Plains, N.Y.; Ernst and Young, Chicago; SpaceLabs, Redmond, Wash.; Standard Register, Louisville, Ky.; and Siemens Inc., Iselin, N.J. Midmark (Versailles, Ohio), known for its elaborate set-ups, will have a 10-by-30 booth.
Siemens' nuclear division will be showing its new Deltamanager imaging system. Deltamanager expands Siemens' Delta family of nuclear computers and peripherals, bringing text and image integration capabilities to the nuclear medicine imaging field.
A spokesman for Baxter said the company will be exhibiting several new value-added programs and services.
"If a company has new products, this is the place where they will be introduced," said Doug Bloom, executive director of national accounts for Hill-Rom. Hill-Rom is sending between 60 and 70 staffers to the show, mostly from management and administration. But the company will not introduce any new product this year.
Attendees can choose from 42 general sessions and 15 in-depth, three-hour instructional conferences that cover economics, executive management, human resources, innovation, quality and technology. There will also be special concurrent meetings or programs held during the conventions on small or rural hospitals, metropolitan hospitals, health systems, maternal and child health and for the first time, aging and long-term care.
Special activities include an auxiliary forum and luncheon, a meeting titled "Managing Pace and Pressure in Today's Environment," an executive's program and a federal program.
Author Alex Haley will be the speaker for the opening session. Other speakers include former astronaut Sally Ride, Dr. C. Everett Koop, political columnist Pat Buchanan and former Washington Redskins quarterback Joe Theismann.
