Kinetic Concepts buys Medirec
Kinetic Concepts Inc., San Antonio Texas, a manufacturer of computerized specialty therapy beds, acquired Salt Lake City-based Medirec, a company that leases patient monitoring and respiratory equipment west of the Mississippi River, for $36 million.
A spokesman for Kinetic said the company purchased Medirec, which has $48 million in annual sales, so it could provide customers with more products and so that it could bundle products.
He noted that Kinetic plans to acquire one or two more companies that provide products, which are ancillary to its beds, in a short period of time.
Medirec is the third acquisition, having acquired Simmons Healthcare, Charlotte, N.C., a supplier of med-surg equipment and hospital beds and American Scale Corp., Elmsford, N.Y.
