New Stephen Ministers ready to provide help

Compiled by Jeannie E. Nordstrom

The Calvary Lutheran Church in Post Falls trains members to help people who are terminally ill, grieving, experiencing divorce, in a job crisis or in other trying situations.

The trained members are part of a group called Stephen Ministers. They don't give professional advice but act as friends to those struggling through tough times.

The first class of 15 has been matched with care receivers. The second class of 11 recently was commissioned and is ready to help.

Those who need help don't have to belong to the church. Identities are kept confidential.

To receive help from the Stephen Ministry, call Pastor Larry Cudmore or Gail Gutterud at (208) 773-5321.

Chris Haas, a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church, will be attending Concordia Seminary in Portland and has been approved for a $2,000 scholarship from the church's endowment fund.

The church has donated scholarship money to Lutheran Church- Missouri Synod colleges and seminaries for many years for future church workers. The church's scholarship policy gives first priority to members who plan to become church workers, and second priority to LCMS colleges and seminaries.

The church is requesting prayers for more church workers, and people to consider contributing to the endowment fund through wills, insurance policies, trusts, and/or by donation.
