Two major acquisitions moved toward completion last week as, in the beef industry, a bankruptcy court awarded majority ownership in Farmland National Beef Co. to U.S. Premium Beef Producers (USPB) and, in the chicken industry, authorities did not raise antitrust issues in Pilgrim's Pride Corp.'s proposed acquisition of the chicken division of ConAgra Foods Inc. Both developments were expected.
