I WAS horrified to read that farmer's wife Jilly Walsh was forced off the land and into prostitution by the Foot And Mouth crisis.

And to hear that at least five other wives have been put in similar positions is appalling.

Why didn't the British Government compensate all farmers for loss of earnings as well as culled stock?

Do they enjoy making women go on the game with all the risks to health and family life that entails?
