Parents of seniors perform a major annual civic duty by evaluating the West Tennessee High School program
DeMoulin, Donald FSixteen parents of seniors students at a West Tennessee High School evaluated their high school program using The Parent High School Evaluation Scale. The evaluation was conducted under the Parent Teacher Association. The average of all ratings was considerably above average, suggesting that parents were quite happy with the high school programs for their students
Findings on Evaluation
The findings on evaluation clearly indicate that persons responsible for the development and implementing of programs are typically not able to perceive errors that are being made. This is true largely because it wold tend to demean their ability to function in their present roles. The school administrator is personally responsible for planning, developing, and implementing the school programs The Board of Education is responsible for hiring and firing of such administrators, and approving any programs that are planned for such use. Therefore, neither the Administrator or Board Members would be expected to perceive errors they have made in such development and implementation of the school programs..
Parent Group
The parent evaluation group included 16 parents of present high school seniors, all of whom had completed successfully a high school or better education. They ranged in age form 30 to 50 years with a mean age of 41.94 years, and with a standard deviation of 5.09 years. Ten of them were females and six were males.
Findings
The findings of the adult team are depicted in Figure 1 below. The raw scores under the profile depict ratings given to the five major parts of the Cassel rating scale, and where a rating of 15 is considered to be average. Leadership of the school administrator received the highest rating of 21, which is probably the most important aspect of the ratings being given. All other ratings were considerable above average; so this is considered to be an excellent school for the youth of our country. The profile on top of the raw scores, were all in the high average range, with leadership being the only one above average.
The correlations in Table 1 below are provided because they depict three important aspects of the parent evaluation process:
1. Four negative ratings under gender show female adult raters have greater emphasis on (1) Learning Effectiveness, (2) Development of Democratic Maturity, (3) Personal Development Program, and (4)Overall Evaluation..
2. The excessive high correlation among all five parts of the ratings suggest their inter-relatedness in relation to adult ratings being given-all five parts are considered to be inter-related for effective student development and learning.
