BUSINESS START-UP 2001 EXCEL EXHIBITION CENTRE DOCKLANDS OCT 20-21 "
JOHN HARVEY JONESIn April of this year I had the pleasure of opening the first of a new series of exhibitions called Business Startup. The event that was launched at the NEC was incredibly successful and subsequently I am delighted that I have been invited back again to speak on my favourite subjects, Enterprise and Innovation.
It takes a lot of guts for someone to branch out on their own but it is so worth it when it goes right.
It is the most personally rewarding, challenging and exciting way of life.
Starting up a business is a risk but the more advice you take the more you can reduce the risk you are barmy if you don't. In simple terms, this is why an event like this is so successful; because there is a wealth of quality advice, guidance and opportunity.
The exhibition is a catalyst for new ventures and I am very much looking forward to speaking to you about the issues I believe are most important.
Don't leave it too late. If I could live my life again I would change it slightly. I wouldn't replace my years in the Navy - they were character-building - but I would have left ICI sooner and branched out alone.
