Two All Saints educators receive national honors
Compiled by Cheri RobelTwo members of the All Saints Catholic School faculty have received top honors from the National Catholic Education Association in Washington, D.C.
Principal Kathy Hicks has received the 2001 Distinguished Principal Award for Northwest region. Hicks has been honored for her dedication and commitment to Catholic education.
Nick Senger, vice principal and eighth-grade teacher at All Saints, was awarded the 2001 Outstanding Educator Award.
Linda Clark Barnes was named Outstanding Sustainer for the Year 2000 by the Junior League of Spokane.
Her Junior League work included chairing the Museum of Native American Cultures Docent Program and the annual Lilac Stars fund- raiser for SCAN.
She has served on the League's Alcohol Education and Awareness Advisory board and the Suspected Child Abuse and Neglect Center board. She also served on the Arnold Palmer Golf Exhibition Tournament committee.
Barnes helped establish the Interfaith Hospitality Network in 1997 and has been involved in all aspects of the program.
Brian R. League graduated from Marquette University in Milwaukee with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering.
Mary McFarland, dean of Gonzaga University's School of Professional Studies, has been selected as a Robert Wood Johnson Executive Nurse Fellow. The Fellowship consists of a funded project of $60,000 that is implemented over a two-year period and an executive leadership development component, which includes $15,000 in funding with development experiences spread over a three-year period.
McFarland, who is also a registered nurse and a professor, was one of 15 nurses nationwide selected to this three-year program.
Jason W. Miller was awarded a $4,500 University of Idaho academic tuition scholarship, renewable for four years.
Miller is the son of Gary and Cindy Miller, Cheney, and a graduate of Cheney High School. He is a sophomore majoring in visual communication.
Air National Guard Airmen 1st Class Nathan R. Braid and Jeffrey A. Pilik recently graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio.
Braid is the son of Bill Braid, Spokane.
Pilik is the son of Roberta Pilik, Spokane.
Air Force Airmen Aaron J. Kelley, Filicity A. Frederick and Jill E. Ebelt recently graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio.
Kelley is the son of Lawrence and Bertha Kelley, Mead.
Frederick, daughter of Gary and Victoria Boardman, Spokane, is a 1999 graduate of Ferris High School.
Ebelt is the daughter of Brenda and Lloyd Lohf, Otis Orchards, and Rod Ebelt, Greenacres.
