Sandpoint group wins `Battle of the Bands'
Compiled by Cheri RobelTim and Mike Jarzabek and Chris Reynolds, members of "Acid for the Show," a Sandpoint rock and roll band, won the Battle of the Bands contest held Jan.20 at Sandpoint High School. The band competed against four other local rock bands.
Jillian Malloy, a senior at Post Falls High School, was the winner of the Good Citizen Program and Scholarship Contest. She will now be judged at state level and if successful will go to the national level.
Jeffrey Clemens has been named one of more than 2,600 candidates in the year 2001 Presidential Scholars Program. Scholars are selected on the basis of superior academic and artistic achievements, leadership qualities, strong character and involvement in community and school activities.
Clemens is the son of Wayne and Pamela Clemens, Spokane, and a senior at North Central High School.
David Nygaard, a member of Boy Scout Troop 21, was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout. His service project consisted of gathering materials and organizing the building of five large bookcases for the Vanessa Beehan Crisis Nursery.
Nygaard is the son of Stan and Lucy Nygaard, Spokane.
Jessica Isenberg was chosen as the Post Falls Rotary Student of the Month for January.
Isenberg is the daughter of Larry and Ann Isenberg. She is a member of the National Honor Society and has a 4.22 grade-point average.
Nathan Alexander McIntosh is a senior at Riverside High School, where each year he has received the Riverside High School academic renaissance card.
Earlier this year he was selected to the Who's Who of American High School students.
He was voted as drama class president and has received four stars and lettered in drama.
McIntosh was selected as an All-American Scholar for academic excellence. He will receive a partial scholarship from Devry, where he will be studying software design.
The following Lakeland High School students were named January students of the month. This honor is awarded to students who have shown a willingness to follow instructions, a positive attitude, demonstrate concern for others, show an interest in studies, demonstrate an ability to accept and benefit from criticism and be involved in class activities.
Debbie Temple, a senior, is the daughter of Robert and Deborah Krause. She is the current president of the LHS National Honor Society Chapter.
Doug Shove, a junior, is the son of David and Chrissy Shove. He plans to attend the University of Idaho and study computer programming.
Richard Lane, a sophomore, is the son of David and Paula Miller. He hopes to attend Georgia Tech and major in engineering.
