Spokane students earn EWU scholarships

Seven students from Spokane have been awarded scholarships for the 2000-2001 school year at Eastern Washington University.

Jared Bock was awarded an $850 Gary Brown Memorial Scholarship.

Bock is the son of Jerry and Jamie Bock, Spokane. He graduated as valedictorian from Shadle Park High School in 1996 and is a senior at Eastern majoring in electronic film and media.

Elizabeth McIntosh was awarded a $1,000 Alumni Scholarship.

McIntosh is the daughter of Donn and Karen Gehret of Spokane and is a graduate of Shadle Park High School.

Mikaely Moore received a $2,000 Presidential Scholarship for academic merit.

Moore is the daughter of Ed and Janice Moore, Spokane, and is a graduate of Gonzaga Preparatory School. She has published photos in the National Museum of Photography's "Reflections from the Past" and "America and the Millenium."

Dung Ngo was awarded a $1,000 Farmers Insurance scholarship and a $1,500 Peter Bozanich scholarship.

Ngo is the daughter of Thi Tran, Spokane. She graduated from high school in Vietnam and is a 1997 graduate of Spokane's Institute for Extended Learing. She is a junior at Eastern and is majoring in accounting.

Nguyen Pham was awarded a $1,500 Dean's Scholarship for academic excellence.

Pham is the son of Tuyen Ngo and Huynh Pham, both of Spokane. He is a graduate of Ferris High School and plans to study accounting and marketing at Eastern.

Francesca Salomone was awarded an $800 Mabel Pearson Bright Scholarship. This scholarship is awared to outstanding students majoring in elementary education.

Salomone is the daughter of Franco and Marisa Salomone, Spokane. She has been on the dean's list every quarter and is involved in Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society and Students Educating About Life. Salomone is a senior and is majoring in elementary mathematics education at Eastern.

Sarah Sims received a $931 SAACS Outreach Science Fair Scholarship. This award is given to the winner of the Outreach Science Fair, which she won two years ago.

Sims is the daughter of Kevin and Jane Sims, Spokane, and is a graduate of Rogers High School. She was chosen to receive a Community Service Merit Award and participated in the running start program. She plans to major in secondary education at Eastern.

The Park University School for Extended Learning Resident Center at Fairchild Air Force Base is proud to announce the graduation of 18 students. The graduates are a mix of members of the military and civilians from the community. The following students earned degrees during the 1999-2000 Park University school year. Also listed are graduation honors and the ranks of military personnel.

The following Washington State University seniors and graduates have been elected to Phi Beta Kappa honor society:

Pullman

Andrea L. Piper, is a 1994 high school graduate. Her parents are Gary Piper of Pullman and Henrietta Piper of Colfax. The May WSU graduate was a member of Golden Key honor society and the Anthropology Club.

Shelly L. Bonogofski, 1996 Mead High School graduate. She is the daughter of Jane and Dann Bonogofski. She graduated in May with degree in genetics and cell biology.

Danica M. Allen, daughter of Marsha Royer of Pullman and John Shultz of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The May WSU graduate is also a member of Golden Key national honor society.

Spokane

Kady M. Honeychurch is a 1996 University High School graduate. Her parents are Kelly and Gary Honeychurch. A member of Alpha Omicron Pi sorority, she also holds membership in Phi Eta Sigma and Phi Kappa Phi honor societies.

Tekoa

Shana M. Heaton, a 1996 Tekoa High School graduate. She is the daughter of Salli and Gary Heaton. The Golden Key national honor society member completed in communication degree in May.
