PEOPLE IN LOVE SHOW THEIR ON-AGAIN, OFF-AGAIN WAYS
Compiled by staff writer Dan WebsterIt's long past Valentine's Day, but People magazine is still lauding the processes of love.
Only in some cases, the processes are more breakup-oriented than purely happy endings.
For example, the battling Brit-royals, Princess Di and Prince Charles, are featured on the magazine's cover.
Other celebrity splitups include Halle Barry and David Justice, along with Richard Dreyfuss and Laura Cayouette.
Yet there is some good news, too - if you can call it that. People reports, for example, that Happy Gilmore... er, Adam Sandler is supposedly dating Alicia Silverstone.
Meanwhile, singers Natalie Merchant and Michael Stipe (of REM) seem "to be very much on again."
Loose talk
O.J. Simpson attorney Alan Dershowitz hawking his new book, "Reasonable Doubts," on "Entertainment Tonight": "Every bush-league, first year law school mistake that Marcia Clark and Chris Darden could have made, they made. They played right into our hands in every possible way."
He once held a job as a bank teller
Penn Jillette turns 41 today.
And the ups-downs are all part of the slo-mo moments
So it's always a big part of "Baywatch" to see the babes run, in slow motion, up and down the beach. But even better are the segments that feature them heading for the waves. Yet such moments don't thrilll all the cast members. "I hate it, I despise it, I dread it," says cast member Yasmine Bleeth about bathing in the chilly Pacific Ocean. "But hey, there are ups and downs to every job."
Gift? Sometimes, it all seems like His little joke
In an interview with the Orange County Register, Kelsey Grammer was asked why he tends to laugh when so much tragedy has hit his life? "How does anybody keep laughing?" he said. "I'm not the only person who has lived through tragedies and kept going. It's God's greatest gift to us, the gift of irony."
Don't want to empty the trash? Allll-righty then
Jim Carrey say it can't be easy living with him. "I'm like a caged animal," he told Cosmopolitan magazine. "I'm up all night walking around the living room. It's hard for me to come down from what I do. It's like being an astronaut. You're on the moon all day, and then at night, you go home and have to take out the garbage."
Still, don't you think it's a first-class proposal?
About the controversy about school uniforms, late-night television host Conan O'Brien has a view. "Seventy percent of school principals think uniforms would cut down on violence," he says. "Yeah. After all, look what they've done for the post office."
That means the cuffs aren't for what we thought
And responding to a report that O.J. Simpson was contemplating a line of O.J. toys and dolls, "Tonight" host Jay Leno said, "But I think Mattel beat him to it. Those Mattel people are smart. Today they introduced their new 911 Barbie."
