Two golden oldies
ANDREW ALEXANDERIF ___ (Cert 15, 111 mins)
Reissue in a new print of Lindsay Anderson's 1968 film about revolution in an English boarding school, in which Malcolm McDowell polevaulted to stardom and from which disaffected youth all over western Europe took its cue. A true landmark film. For a fuller appreciation, see Golden Oldie in today's Hot Tickets.
THE CONVERSATION ___ (Cert PG, 113 mins)
Also reissued, with the important addition of Walter Murch's Two golden oldies digitally remastered soundtrack, is Francis Ford Coppola's 1974 masterwork: a surveillance thriller in which Gene Hackman, the "best bugger on the West Coast", picks up what seems like a murder plan being hatched by two young lovers, then finds himself sucked into conspiracy, paranoia and violent death through his misreading the message on the medium. A landmark in the paranoid Seventies, and a virtual prophecy of the Watergate conspiracy, it will be given fuller attention in next week's Hot Tickets Golden Oldie.
