Lincoln unveils Blackwood prototype
Evans, MillieLabeled a "utility with ultimate style" the Lincoln Blackwood concept vehicle takes luxury to another level. The four-door, four-passenger, luxury-utility concept is an extension of the Lincoln Navigator-with one important difference: an enclosed 4-foot 8-inch box that serves as a trunk. The exterior trunk area is covered with more than 20 square feet of Wenge wood-a dark, dense, striated wood from central Africa. The wood is sealed with a clear epoxy to protect it from the elements. The hardtop of the closed box in the rear opens hydraulically to a 45-degree angle. Once lifted, the double rear door gate can be opened to the sides, giving complete access to the illuminated interior of the trunk.
The interior of the Blackwood is based on the Navigator's interior with the addition of Wenge wood accents, and a GPS system is integrated into the floor-mounted center console. The four bucket seats are trimmed in black Connolly leather, and the chassis is twowheel drive that is lowered 3 inches. Wheels are 19-inchers fitted to P286R60-19 tires, and the power plant is a 5.4-liter DOHC V-8. The Blackwood fits into the Class III trailer-towing group.
