GM, Ford going plastic
Evans, MillieGeneral Motors and Ford Motor Company are expected to begin to produce pickup trucks with plastic beds and tailgates within the next year, according to Automotive News. The publication said neither company would confirm the information but that eight supplier and automotive sources confirmed the changeover. Ford is expected to install plastic beds in its Explorer Sport Trac by the end of this year and by 2001 in the F-150 crew cab and Lincoln Blackwood. GM is expected to offer a plastic bed and a plastic tailgate as an option in 2000 in its Sierra/Silverado line, according to the Automotive News.
