Sue WilsonBABY-FACED Scottish six-piece, Croft, confirm their early promise on a debut album bursting with ideas, talent and attitude. An all- instrumental line-up, they sound at times like Capercaillie with a harder rhythmic edge, while backing beats and drumming techniques are akin to Shooglenifty. Their fusion influences lean towards funk and acid jazz cut with traditional-style melodies. Perhaps there are too many ideas jostling together at times: the kind of extended workout that predominates here tends to work better live. But as a statement of intent and ambition, it's an impressive document.
