Compiled by Nina CulverSt. Francis explained
In honor of the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi on Wednesday, the Catholic Studies program at Gonzaga University will present "Francis of Assisi and the Problem of Poverty."
The free public lecture begins at 7:30 p.m. Monday in the Jepson Center auditorium on campus.
St. Francis, founder of the Franciscan order, is well known for his renunciation of property ownership in the 13th century. His strict adherence to his vow of poverty caused widespread debate about the ownership of property.
The lecture will explain Francis' views and the debate that followed.
