AT the other end of the sunflower scale are dwarf varieties such as Teddy Bear, Sundance Kid and Pacino. They grow knee-high and are perfect for pots.

SUNFLOWERS make good cut flowers, particularly Prado Sun and Fire, with its deep yellow with chocolate or rich velvety rosewood blooms. Also grow Pastiche for a mixture of yellows, reds and buffs - some with a bright or deep central disc.

THE multi-branching, tall varieties such as Italian White and Lemon Queen can be used to make an attractive hedge or screen in a sheltered, sunny garden.

ALLERGY sufferers should grow a pollen- free variety such as velvety red Runy Sunset.
