Lewis attempts to lengthen Stateline streak
Paul Delaney CorrespondentPat Lewis tries to add to both his Sportsman class winning streak and points lead this Saturday at Stateline Speedway.
Lewis, who had three straight wins and seven victories in 13 outings this season, holds a relatively comfortable lead (763 to 647) over Tony Holcomb.
Also on the program are Mini-Trucks, where Rob Tipps (671) and Mark DeBoodt (647) are in a tight race for the lead.
Hobby Stock leader Bill Currier (1127 points) can all but stay home the rest of the year, but he won't. With Currier miles ahead, the next real battle is now for second between Ron Collison (897) and Jim Babcock (871).
The Washington Midget Racers round out the racing that begins with time trials at 6:30.
Drag racers head for Yakima
As many as a dozen or more area drag racers will travel to Renegade Raceway near Yakima for this weekend's fifth race of the NHRA Division Six six-race drag series.
Todd Hoerner (Top Comp), John Preston, Jay Oien (Super Comp), Rod Hoerner, Dave Holmes, James Arsenault, Scott Benner (Super Gas), Mark Reisen and Ken Peplinski (Super Street) are some of the drivers who will travel to the race which runs Friday through Sunday at the Wapato track.
Of the group, Rod Hoerner in the Super Gas class has the only hope to bring home a divisional championship. Hoerner opened the season with the surprise victory at Boise and led the class for the first two races. He has since hung in third place the last two races.
Hoerner, the lone local driver among the leaders, trails leader John Peterson by 66 points and is just 16 back of second place Michael Henderson.
"Both are reachable," Hoerner said.
