GAA: Corkery's cooking
PAUL CLARKECOLIN CORKERY kept Nemo Rangers All-Ireland dream alive at Nenagh yesterday.
The big full-forward scored all nine points as the Cork giants edged out Charlestown in the AIB Club SFC semi-final.
Eight of those points came from placed balls on a day when last year's beaten finalists under-performed to such a degree that they have every reason to be worried ahead of the St Patrick's Day decider against Ballinderry.
Charlestown, who won their first Mayo title in 99 years last autumn, gave Nemo a massive scare and will look back on the sending off of defender Enda Casey after 52 minutes as a huge turning point.
The sides were level on 0-7 each at the time, but Corkery sealed victory.
Charlestown, with David Tiernan turning in a man of the match display, led by 0-5 to 0-3 at half-time, by which stage they had kicked eight wides after a blistering start that yielded early points from Sean Higgins, Mark Caffrey and Padraig Horkan.
