Your letters: Ringing changes

I HOPE that the millions who go to see The Lord Of The Rings will absorb its glorious, ultra-unfashionable message that power corrupts, that there are such things as good and evil, that chivalry and courage are great virtues and that insignificant individuals often turn out to be capable of greatness.

I also hope that it will persuade Hollywood to change its sordid ways. Indeed, the movie is violent and frightening, and it doesn't seek to hide the truth about pain or cruelty, yet it doesn't dwell needlessly on gore, nobody swears and while Liv Tyler and Cate Blanchett remain clothed and chaste, in sooth they've never looked lovelier.
