Letters to the editor
not resigning:n The president has forced the nation toMother should stay homeTo the parents concerned with day care closings: My first thought was why doesn't mom give up a few material things and just stay home and raise those children until they are able to take care of themselves? The benefits for the children and mom and dad would be more than you could ever imagine.
-- MARGE REED, Topeka.
A welcome deliveryYesterday I called the post office at 29th and Adams to inquire about some mail that had been lost. I spoke to a very nice gentleman named Jim Wolf. He was so nice and very thoughtful and truthful. Most people just tell you anything to pass the buck. But, he didn't do that. I then asked him about mailmen carrying stamps on their routes. And I found only in rural areas do they carry them. I thanked him and wished him a happy holiday, and started to piddle around my house. Then about 20 minutes later there was a knock at the door. It was Mr. Wolf with stamps in hand. I couldn't believe it. He said he was on his way downtown, and decided to drop some stamps off for me. Wasn't that sweet? A nice young handsome man too with a sweet heart. We need more like him. Thanks, Mr. Wolf. -- GLENDA WAKE, Topeka. No more excusesThere is no such thing as an excuse! Out with Clinton. The hypocrisy started with Clinton promising an administration built on truth, honor and not one hint of corruption. Then came Hubbell, McDougal and McDougal, Brown, Foster, Espy, etc. and etc., and now Clinton. A liar from beginning to end. Double standards cannot be tolerated:n If it is correct to cashier an Air Force officer for lying about an affair, then the commander- in-chief should be treated the same. - If I were to have had an affair with one of my college students, whether I lied about it or not, I would have been asked to resign and I would. No politician is so valuable that he cannot be replaced:n A president who is a repeated sex offender, by his own admission, and a consummate liar, is not fit morally or personally to be the highest representative of this nation. How could anyone ever believe again a word he said?n The nation demands, as educators, that we instill morality, honesty and integrity in our students. Then Clinton cuts us off at the knees. Out!Two of a kind:n If we get rid of the president, then we get rid of his wife. - No moral, self respecting woman would continue to condone such sustained assaults on her marriage or her dignity or the dignity of her daughter, who must live with this for the rest of her life, while her father smiles in his imperious self content. This is evident in his continued fight to be president. - Clinton now joins an elite group of consummate liars -- Clinton, Netanyahu and Saddam Hussein. Let us hope we never again have to endure another Rhodes Scholar in politics. The last two were far too many. This exalted stupidity is more than any nation deserves to endure. -- J.R. THOMPSON, Altoona. Promoting disorderHow pitiful it is that Bonnie Cuevas, chapter president of PFLAG (Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays) has swallowed the lies of the so-called gay rights lobby, becoming a pawn to aid the lobby's long-standing efforts to legalize adult-child sex, the politically perverse agenda undermining all classroom "sex- education." Cuevas' pro-gay rhetoric and contradictory response to parental objections of gay tolerance reveals that her ability to reason is governed by the gay lobby's propaganda thus blinding her to the reality that her son "who happens to be gay" has been seduced and lured into a shameful disorientation, betrayed by brainwashed "educators" like herself. Certainly Cuevas should fear a high risk of suicide among "gay" youth given the lonely, tormented and naturally guilt-ridden life to which they've succumbed. That the majority of people are repulsed by the homosexual condition is a natural response to an unnatural human instinct. Thereto, sincere love for one's child befallen to a disordered identity compels one to seek available professional and spiritual counseling for him to recover his natural gender identity, rather than defend and support that which is false while attempting to hang blame for its dire consequences upon those who have every right to be repulsed by it. -- JEANENE A. GILL, Topeka. Police come throughI would like to thank the Topeka police force for a job well done. They stopped individuals from breaking into a home and causing severe bodily harm. There is no worse feeling than being defenseless, and that's what we were. Terror and certain injury were replaced by reassurance and safety. Their efficiency and skill in severe weather conditions in the dark of the night is a tribute to the high standards and intensive training they endure. Do not believe everything you hear -- they truly are there when you need them. Thanks to them we will be able to have a happy new year. -- JOCINDA GRASSI, D.V.M., Topeka.
