North American's Borowsky placed under house arrest - North American Publishing Pres. Ned Borowsky
Keith J. KellyNed Borowsky, president of Philadelphia based North American Publishing, was sentenced to five months of house arrest three years probation and a fine of $20,000 in federal district court in Philadelphia on February 8 after pleading guilty to two courts of wire fraud in connection with a circulation scam involving card decks. Authorities originally charged him with 16 costs of wire fraud.
Authorities say Borowsky made about $120,000 between 1989 and 1990 by telling advertisers that he was sending out their direct-response card packs with his magazines. In reality, most of the decks were never circulated.
Borowsky's attorney, Donald Goldberg. says his client made restitution after he was charged last September. As a result of the sentencing, Borowsky must wear an electronic beeper and remain in his home for five months. However, he is allowed to travel to and from work and remains president of North American, a family-owned company. Borowsky declined comment.
