Harper's Bazaar gets new publisher
Cynthia Lewis, most recently vice president and publisher of Marie Claire, was named vice president and publisher of the U.S. edition of Harper's Bazaar. Lewis will report to Anne Fuchs, senior vice president and group publishing director, Hearst Magazines.
Since 1997, Lewis served as vice president and publisher of Marie Claire, a joint venture between Hearst and Marie Claire Album. In 1994, the year the magazine was launched in the United States, she was the founding associate publisher. The publication has grown significantly under Lewis' leadership. In 1999, advertising pages were up 11.4 percent, with a total of 1,397 ad pages, while circulation was up 6.6 percent, reaching a ratebase of 700,000. Lewis first joined Hearst Magazines in 1990 as cosmetics and fragrance manager of Town & Country. She has also held various executive positions at HG and Elle.
