Fit and funky in Siberia - IFBB World Report - Brief Article
Dean BrierlyThe Russians don't like fitness contests. They love 'em! Especially in Siberia, site of the first Open Fitness Championships of the Ural Federal District of Russia. Forty-one fitness contestants from 15 towns and cities throughout Mother Russia put on their game faces and battled for glory in four age categories: up to 15 years old, up to 18, up to 21, and 21 and over. More than 1,500 fans turned out in Tyumen City to show their appreciation for the display of beauty, grace and physical prowess by giving one ovation after another.
Such a warm response was music to the ears of Eugene Koltun, president of the Tyumen Bodybuilding Federation, under whose direction this contest was organized. The motto of the championships was "Sport against Drugs," a message that resonated with athletes and spectators alike.
Many officials from Tyumen City and the Ural Parliament turned out to show their support, and numerous media representatives (television, radio and newspaper) were also on hand to bring the action to fans who couldn't attend in person.
