Smirnoff uses a heavier PET bottle to showcase its premium vodka
Jennifer BillingsFor expanded outdoor usage, including summer yard parties and beach outings, Smirnoff Vodka has introduced a new upscale 1.75 liter polyethylene terephthalate (PET) container.
Supplied by Schmalbach-Lubeca Plastic Containers, the custom bottle is lighter than glass, yet it is heavier in gram weight than ordinary PET containers for a rigid, premium upscale feel. The container incorporates a grip feature for easy handling and a high level of embossing for a unique look.
The bottles are decorated with metallized labels from George Schmitt Co., and a scratch-resistant Lubri-Stat coating from Container Automation Systems is used to prevent backoff and preserve the bottle's upscale look. The domes of the polypropylene closures from Kerr Group are embossed with the Smirnoff shield logo and the smooth sides are decorated with therimage labels from Avery Dennison, Decorating Technologies Div.
To further preserve package integrity, bottles are shipped in Micro-Lite 2000 cases from Inland Container, which have a protective no-mar coating.
