VersaTray logo cues consumers to preferred dual-ovenable packages
Lisa McTigue PierceFor use on Home Meal Replacement (HMR) dual-ovenable trays made with VersaTray plastic from Eastman Chemical Co., the new VersaTray[TM] logo quickly and simply tells consumers that the product can be heated in conventional and/or microwave ovens. Used as a label or printed on the outer packaging, the logo is designed to alleviate consumer confusion and boost HMR sales.
Sponsored by Eastman, research done by the University of Georgia's Food Safety and Quality Enhancement Department indicates that, once educated about HMR packaging options, 92% of consumers preferred dual-ovenability and 30% said they were willing to pay more for it--as much as 40 cents more. Eastman will back the VersaTray logo introduction with an aggressive consumer and trade marketing campaign.
