Jennifer BillingsNew automatic feeding system allows first-in/first-out distribution of bakery products; eliminates line stops
The new Super Slide automatic feeding system improves line balancing and reduces speed fluctuations caused by line stops. It allows wrappers to operate at a constant speed and does not pass individual wrapper inefficiencies on to downstream wrappers. Products may enter at one speed and be efficiently fed to a wrapper operating at a higher or lower speed. Super Slide handles accumulating incoming product rows without interrupting the programmed distribution: the first item into the storage system is the first to exit. It can be integrated into most existing lines or supplied with this manufacturer's wrappers. Super Slide can be placed in front of each wrapper or in front of a series of wrappers. The system is effective with a range of bakery products, especially sticky items.

New robotic depanning system performs product changeovers easily and accurately with minimal waste
Speed: 30 pans per minute New stainless steel washdown RollBot(TM) depanning system for bakeries can move 30 pans of product per minute, According to the manufacturer, this rate is at least 10% more than competitive systems and it requires less floor space. The system switches easily and accurately between products with less waste due to exclusive fast-change grippers, which include vacuum or needle pick-up, and the system's variable handling speeds. RollBot handles five pan sizes as well as warped or double-stacked pans. A pan-straightening function is standard. Products can be transferred to a packing line of formed trays or a conveyor.

New oxygen-scavenging film extends shelf life, improves product quality
New OS1000 oxygen packaging system removes residual oxygen from modified atmosphere packaging (MAP), enabling bakeries to deliver a fresh product to customers while enjoying greater productivity in packaging operations. The low-cost system is invisible, works independently of moisture, fits existing supply chain and packaging equipment and does not alter package aesthetics. The technology uses a polymer as a scavenger to reduce oxygen levels in a package from 0.5% to 1% in MAP applications to "parts per million" in four to 10 days. The proprietary polymer is coextruded as a layer of the film that is invisible to the naked eye and begins to scavenge only when activated--just prior to filling and sealing--by a Model 4100 ultraviolet triggering unit installed on the packaging line. The film can be used as lidstock on thermoformed or horizontal form-fill-seal (f-f-s) packages or as rollstock for vertical f-f-s packages. It can also be printed in multiple colors.
