Patented easy-open flexible bag permits automatic filling - Brief Article
Dan WagnerPapa's got a brand new bag, if he picks up on the patented design from Prietec Industries.
This simple concept lets consumers get a better handhold on the bag during opening. Next to the bag's lengthwise seam, an extra pleat is formed from folded over material. To open, consumers grab this pleat in one hand and an opposite edge of the bag in the other to more easily pull the seam open.
This easy-opening bag design also makes it easy to add a reclosable zipper that can be protected from contamination, according to Prietec. In manufacturing, the bag is filled from the top while the zipper area is tucked in a flap on the side of the bag.
According to Bill Zicker, president of Prietec Industries, the pouch can be filled easily on standard fill-seal equipment if the pouch is pre-made. On a form-fill-seal machine, the pouch could be filled in a somewhat standard manner, as the pleat occurs below the top edge.
Two companies are reviewing this technology for potential use.
