Denver, get ready for some extra-large guests come May 12-13. Retired bodybuilding superstar SHAWN RAY is teaming up with supplement company Vyotech for a new bodybuilding contest, the Shawn Ray Colorado Pro. The details are still being finalized, but here are some of the particulars as of press time.

* IFBB pros will compete for more than $70,000 in total prize money (solid for a new event). The men's payouts will be $25,000 for the winner, $10,000 for second, $5,000 for third, $4,000 for fourth, $3,000 for fifth and $1,000 each for sixth through 10th.

* The competitor deemed best poser will walk away with the $10,000 best presentation award.

* The top three qualify for a 2006 Mr. Olympia berth.

The venue for the contest and expo is the Colorado Convention Center. "We will begin small, with possibly 2,000 seats, and expand as the show grows over the next five years," Ray says. "We are hoping to double the prize money for the next year's winner."

Always one of the best businessmen in the sport, "show promoter" seems like a fitting addendum to Ray's resume. If he can pull this event together, hit his prize money targets and turn a profit, it'll be a great addition to the pro circuit.
